our chairman writes:
It's my privilege to welcome you to the 50th
Anniversary of the Company, with a golden range of plays for your enjoyment,
and a special celebration whose details are on this website.
We pride ourselves on keeping our ticket prices as low as possible, but the
ever-increasing cost of the venue and royalties have forced us to increase our
prices by £1, which is still great value!
Our first play is the black comedy Natural Causes, by Eric Chappell, one of
the best comedies in this style. This is followed by Roger Crane's The Last Confession. In 1978, you may
remember, Pope Paul I was found dead after only 33 days in office. Suspicion falls
on 3 hostile cardinals.
After Christmas, we bring you Letter of Intent by Sarah Friedel, so
pitch your wits and try to find out who is killing off this family. Next, the
crazy adaptation of The 39 Steps, by
Patrick Barlow: watch as over 150 characters appear before your very eyes, from
a cast of 7. London is the backdrop for Brian Clemens' Holmes and the Ripper, a mixture of comedy and drama, with a theory
to consider. We end the season with Joanna Murray-Smith's comedy Female of the Species, a humorous look
at the side effects of women's lib.
Thanks to our audiences for your support over
the last 50 years. Thanks also to our advertisers and friends at the Assembly
House. I hope to see you at our celebration evening!
