our chairman writes:
It is
my pleasure to welcome you to our 2009 -10 season, with our unique, 'in the
round’ style.
Opening
with that classic thriller The Shop at
Sly Corner, this clever play peppered with humour and fear will confound
you time and time again. The Plotters of
Cabbage Patch Corner awaits you in December, fun for all the family as
garden creepy-crawlies do battle with each other and those 'orrible ‘oomans:
Marc Camoletti, master of French farce gives us Don't Dress For Dinner, a quality farce of mirth and mayhem. This really
is a tangled web. Then back to 1385 with Richard
of Bordeaux to unfold the life of this controversial king.
Somerset
Maugham's classic sophisticated comedy Home
and Beauty is, I think, a gem. I hope you will think so too, as this
marital spring unwinds, twists and turns to the very end. World authority of
the Brontës, Dr Juliet Barker said 'Of all the adaptations of Wuthering Heights
I've seen - film or theatre -
this was the best, wonderful.'
I am
pleased to say that membership and audiences continue to rise as more people come
to appreciate this style of theatre; but there is still much to achieve as we
move into a new phase of our development. My thanks to Mike King and the
Assembly House staff for their continued co-operation.
As
the saying goes, 'onwards and upwards'.
